Questions about 28-Piece Hammer Set

30 questions

About these tools

How do the magnetic knockdown pens work?

The tips are held by a magnet instead of a thread, so you swap them without unscrewing. The 5-piece set has five stainless steel tip shapes, from crown reduction to flat blending.

What tip shapes are in the 9-piece stainless steel tip set?

Sharp precision points, standard domed tips, wide flat heads and wedge shapes. The surfaces are hand-polished for tapping on clear coat.

What does the curved dotted face hammer do?

Its curved, dotted face grips and slightly shrinks the metal on impact and resists slipping, which helps on complex blending. The magnetic square handle stops it rolling off the cart.

What is a slap tool used for?

A slap tool is for broad surface adjustments and leveling. The magnetic wooden set pairs a slap tool with a magnetic wooden pen for detailed knockdown work.

What is the black tapping pen for?

Knocking back micro-highs and crowns without marking the clear coat. It measures 17 x 100 mm and is used on both steel and aluminum panels.

Choosing the right tool

Which threads do the knockdown pens and tips use?

Most threaded knockdowns and tips here come in M8 (Metric 8) or 5/16 inch. Choose the thread that matches your existing tips; the tip adapter converts between the two.

Aluminum or steel head on the ergonomic wood handle hammer?

Choose the aluminum head for delicate blending and soft, controlled corrections. Choose the steel head for stiff, deep or sharp dents and high-strength steel panels. The hammer weighs about 500 g.

Which blending hammer weights are listed?

The DentPDR medium-weight balance hammer and the Blending Hammer - PDR both weigh 170 g, and the ergonomic wood handle hammer weighs about 500 g.

What is the difference between the two carbon fiber hammers?

Both have a lightweight carbon fiber handle that reduces vibration and a stainless steel body. One takes interchangeable tips so you can change the striking face; the other has a fixed stainless steel head.

When should I use a plastic face hammer?

A plastic striking face gives a softer impact than steel, which is more forgiving on small and medium dents. Choose the Model 6 plastic face hammer, or the plastic hammer with a 10-piece bit set.

Which hammer should I use to drive a knockdown pen?

The PDR knockdown striking hammer has a 40 mm face and a 32 cm length. The wide face makes it hard to miss the back of the pen, so you can keep your eyes on the dent.

Which pen is for the smallest high spots?

The PDR ultra-precision magnetic knockdown pen has a 3 mm steel trace point for micro-highs, sharp tension points and small over-pulls.

Which tip sets are available for blending hammers and knockdowns?

Three sets. A 9-piece stainless steel tip set in M8 or 5/16 (500 g total), a 12-piece M8 stainless steel tip set in a storage box, and an 11-piece knockdown pen set with an aluminum body and stainless steel tips.

Why choose an aluminum knockdown pen?

Aluminum keeps the pen light, which reduces hand fatigue over long blending sessions. The ultra-light aluminum knockdown adds a textured body and O-rings for grip; both come in M8 or 5/16.

What sizes are the PDR pens in this collection?

They range from 13 to 16 cm in length and 12 to 23 mm in diameter. For example, the Strike Pen and Edge Pen are 13 cm x 17 mm and the Pro Pen is 16 cm x 23 mm.

Can I fit plastic or rubber tips on a knockdown hammer?

Yes, on the 2-piece stainless steel knockdown hammer set. Each hammer has an interchangeable tip socket for plastic, steel or rubber tips, in M8 or 5/16.

Should I choose spring steel or stainless steel?

Both offer similar flexibility and hardness. Stainless rods are lower maintenance; uncoated spring steel can surface-rust over time unless you wipe it down with a light protective oil such as WD-40. If you want zero upkeep, go stainless.

Are these tools only for professionals?

They are designed for professional PDR technicians, but trainees and newly qualified users work with the same range. Tell us your level and we will point you to the right starting set.

Returns, warranty and payment

I ordered the wrong thread for my knockdown. Can I exchange it?
